Through a methodical layering of color and mark, Wojtas interrogates the ontology of the grid as the rigidity of its frame is deconstructed through gestural marks and atmospheric vibrations of value. The paintings are subtle fields, delicate membranes poised between the physical and perceptual.

Within a formal discourse, Wojtas investigates culture’s relationship to the grid, an icon of technological determinism; is the grid a human construct or is it a natural model that has been colonized to tame nature? This dialectic is manifest through the manner in which Wojtas humanizes the grid through painterly slippages and gesture.
